About the Netherlands

The Kingdom of the Netherlands was formed in 1815. A modern, industrialised nation, the Netherlands is also a large exporter of agricultural products. The country was a founding member of NATO and the EC, and participated in the introduction of the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) in 1999.

The Netherlands, also known as Holland, borders the North Sea in the north and west, Germany in the east, and Belgium in the south. With Belgium and Luxembourg, the Netherlands form the BENELUX countries. The country is easy to travel through and the locals are friendly and are known to speak good English.

It is also a perfect place for job seekers in the IT field. The country boasts a large, growing number of companies providing services for electronic business, as well as a business community shifting from electronic data interchange systems to Internet-based solutions. The country has a 100% digital, advanced fibre-optic network in place, and offers the largest bandwidth on the European continent. This is complemented by low-cost long-distance telecommunications and bandwidth charges. It remains an attractive country for foreign nationals to work.

One exciting aspect of working in the Netherlands is that foreign nationals can qualify to receive 30% of their income tax-free. This results in net salaries comparable to those of the UK and US.
